Raised with Purpose. Rooted in Heritage
Our story
Balsamroot Ranch is our family's 100-acre ranch tucked into the foothills of Central Washington—a place where we're raising our three children, caring for animals, growing food, and learning what it means to faithfully steward the land we've been entrusted with.
But our story didn't begin here.
Agriculture has been part of our family for five generations. Our roots run through the cattle ranches and wheat fields of Eastern Washington, where generations before us built their lives around the land, livestock, hard work, family, and faith.
Balsamroot Ranch is our way of carrying that heritage forward.
Our Family
We're a family of five who cares deeply about health—our own health, the health of the people around us, the health of our animals, and the health of the land that nourishes all of us.
My husband, Jake, is a chiropractor, and together we've spent much of our adult lives serving families in our local community. That work has shaped the way we think about health. We believe the way we live matters: how we move, what we eat, how our food is grown, how animals are raised, and how we care for the resources we've been given.
Balsamroot Ranch grew naturally out of those values.
We wanted our three children to grow up connected to the land and to understand that food doesn't begin at the grocery store. We wanted them to experience the responsibility of caring for animals, the satisfaction of growing something with their own hands, and the patience required to plant something today that may not bear fruit for years.
Most of all, we wanted to build a place where faith, family, health, hard work, and hospitality aren't simply things we talk about—they're woven into everyday life.
Healthy Land. Healthy Animals. Healthy People.
We believe these things are deeply connected.
How we care for the soil affects what grows from it. How we care for our pastures affects the animals that graze them. How animals are raised affects the food they provide. And ultimately, the way we nourish the land has a direct connection to the way we nourish our families.
That's why decisions at Balsamroot are made with the whole picture in mind.
Across our pastures, orchard, gardens, and apiary, we're working to build healthy soil, encourage native vegetation and pollinators, and create an environment where our animals can thrive.
That same philosophy guides our livestock program. Balsamroot Ranch is home to Valais Blacknose and Babydoll sheep, miniature Highland cattle, and our thoughtfully developed Babydoll × Valais companion lambs.
Our breeding decisions are made with purpose—considering genetics, health, conformation, temperament, and the wellbeing of the mother as carefully as the appearance of the offspring.
Because beautiful animals are wonderful.
Healthy, thoughtfully raised animals are better.
From Our Land to Your Family
The things we produce here are an extension of the way we choose to live ourselves.
Our foothill apiaries produce small-batch honey. Our hens provide farm-fresh eggs. Our gardens and orchard produce seasonal fruits and vegetables. Our livestock provide wool, food, and future generations of carefully selected animals.
We aren't interested in producing as much as possible.
We're interested in producing things well—with integrity, care, and a connection to the land they came from.
And when something leaves Balsamroot Ranch for another family's home or table, we want to feel just as good about sharing it with them as we do feeding it to our own family.
The Long View
We don't expect Balsamroot Ranch to ever be finished.
We're planting trees we'll wait years to sit beneath. Improving pastures one season at a time. Building livestock genetics that will take generations to develop. Raising three children who we hope will carry pieces of what they learn here into families and communities of their own.
We're grateful to call Central Washington home and deeply invested in the community that has allowed us to build our life here.
Balsamroot Ranch is our opportunity to take what generations before us handed down, care for it well during our time, and leave something worthwhile for the generations that follow.
We're building Balsamroot Ranch with the long view in mind.
Rooted in heritage. Raised with purpose. Built for generations.
